All adults can learn piano at The Online Piano Institute

The Online Piano Institute is an online piano academy for adults who either want to learn from scratch or improve their skills on Zoom with highly qualified and experienced piano teachers who have a genuine passion for teaching.

It is truly open to all adults from absolute beginners who have no previous music experience to those who are already proficient amateur pianists.

I have titled this article “All adults can learn piano at The Online Piano Institute” as I would like to emphasis on the words ‘all adults’.

People talk a lot and tend to make their opinion an absolute truth or they hear someone else’s opinion and take it as the absolute truth. It is quite sad as wrong and unfounded beliefs could refrain adult piano lovers to learn their favourite instrument.

When people ask me what I do and I reply that I manage a piano school for adults, I often get this question: “Is it really possible for adults to learn piano?” “Don’t you need to learn as a child to be successful at it?”

Where do they get these beliefs from? From their neighbour who has no knowledge in music or a family member who has discouraged them and help them bury their dream?

Please be warry of opinions and false beliefs that could ruin your life and prevent you to live the life you are supposed to live. I believe that it is for a reason that you want to play the piano so do not let anyone put you off.

Now, you are perhaps also a bit unsure about beginning your piano education. You might doubt yourself, develop negative thoughts and think that the only outcome will be to make a fool of yourself. “Taking piano lessons at 34 years old. What a crazy idea? What am I trying to achieve?”

Firstly, it is not a crazy idea and secondly, you will perfectly be capable of learning and enjoy playing some lovely piano pieces of the repertoire. Like any other skill, piano playing must be studied and there is no reason why you cannot be successful at it if you have an excellent piano teacher and you practice regularly.

Even if you are starting to trust me, you might still believe that you are not musical and that you will be unable to understand the advice of your piano teacher.

Here is the good news! At The Online Piano Institute, we welcome ALL ADULTS whether they are talented or not. Actually, we invite the unwanted, the rejected and the undesirable pianist.

Our aim and mission is to train adults from all walks of life to learn how to play the piano and become successful at it.

At The Online Piano Institute, we do not believe that a talent is needed to become a proficient amateur pianist. On the contrary, we believe that everyone can learn how to play the piano and that there is no reason not to give it a go if you are passionate about piano playing.

Our founder Celine Gaurier-Joubert has a huge experience in the field of adult piano education. She has grown up surrounded by amateur musicians, created three piano schools for adults in London, Paris and Dubai and taught adult piano learners for over 20 years. She has created The Online Piano Institute with you in mind as an adult piano beginner as she wanted to provide you with a platform where you could express yourself. She wanted you to learn in a relaxed and non-judgmental environment where negative criticisms and judgments are not welcome.

She always work with terrific piano teachers whom go through a rigorous selection process as she wants to ensure that they possess all the necessary qualities. She selects these pianists based on their qualifications and experience in adult piano education but also for their genuine interest in teaching and wonderful personalities. She wants you to benefit from the most educational and enjoyable piano lessons whoever you study with.

As you have probably understood by now, The Online Piano Institute is slightly different to a traditional piano school for adults. Lessons do not take place at our piano studios. Instead, they are offered on Zoom.

Once again, providing our piano lessons for adults on Zoom was part of the concept to reach ALL ADULTS and to offer them the opportunity to study with a top-notch piano teacher whether they live in Europe, America, Africa, Asia or Australia. We wanted to allow everyone to benefit from the most excellent piano education wherever they reside around the world.

We wanted to be limitless!

Now that you probably have less doubts about your ability to learn how to play the piano as an adult, you might wonder why you should not simply contact a local piano teacher. Why learning on Zoom while you can have access to a piano teacher down the road?

It is because we spend countless hours recruiting the best piano teachers from all around the world and our experience in the field help us select those who will undoubtedly make your piano education a memorable journey. There is a huge difference between an excellent and a bad piano teacher so we do not want you to head in the wrong direction and end up being disappointed.

Now that you have understood the above points, you might still wonder if it is possible to learn piano on Zoom. Of course it is, otherwise we would not have put an online piano school together! The technology and the internet are so developed nowadays that in-person and Zoom piano lessons are very similar. The only difference is that there is no need to commute when taking your piano lessons on Zoom and you can play on your own piano. You can then get more out of your piano lessons since you do not need to waste the first 15 minutes of your lessons recover from the stress occurred during commuting time and another 15 minutes adjusting to the piano of your piano teacher.

As a concert pianist, I truly believe that it is absolute possible for all adults to enjoy piano playing and that nothing or nobody should interfere if you dream of learning how to play this beautiful instrument!
